Vincent Figgins, prominent typeface designer in London, made Antique No.1 in 1817. It’s been credited as the first slab serif typeface and became a popular choice for advertising and display typography during the Industrial Revolution. Figgy V., a Figgins Antique revival, was made to act as a sturdy counterpart to expressive design and illustration in personal work.
Allie Schmitz is an independent lettering and type designer based in New York. Her digital type processes are often informed and driven by material, pattern, and contrast. Alongside her type design practice, she works as an in-house designer to cultivate the complex systems used by brand teams.
